An ancient Jewish Synagogue found hidden in Old Goa, India

September 27, 2011

The Jewish colony in Goa was destroyed. Today there is only rubble to be found under the cover of the jungle.

Those who killed the Jews, have put a curse on them selves and the Indian state of Goa.

 Genesis 12:1-3

“I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse.

How do we know there were Jews living in Old Goa?

This book from 1878 A.D explains about the Jewish colony in Old Goa.

Where was the Jewish colony located in Old Goa?

 Page 313.

To the south of the convent was situated the Novinate of the Augustinians…..

Oposite to this buildings, to the west, there was the grand college called Collegio de Populo. It was erected in 1600. A.D, by the Provincial, Fr.Pedro da Cruz, and was destined for the training of the younger brethren of the same order. It was connected to the Novinate by an arc spanning a broad street called Rua dos Judeus,Street of the Jews.

This noble group of buildings belonging to the Augustinians, which, as a traveller remarks, presented a magnificent spectacle, was abandoned in 1835.

The Roman Catholic Church Is claiming that this building was built by the Portuguese.

The Roman Catholic Church has called this structure St. Augustine Church, with the St. Augustine Tower.

But multiple findings on this site tells us that the official Church history is a falsification.

The Ruin is the host of a an altar stone with an double headed eagle who holds a Torah scroll in its mount.

The ruin is the host of Judaic symbols.

The Goan’s have never been told, that there where Egyptians living in Old Goa, prior to the Portuguese invasion in 1510 A.D.

The Koptic connection is cofirmed by Karen Larsen's book.

Symbols on the walls of the ruins has nothing to do with Europe nor the Roman Catholic faith.

A Messianic Jewish Rabbi from Ethiopia came to Goa, and confirmed that these symbols are of Koptic Ethiopan origin.

A Jewish Rabbi on the site, confirms the Ethiopean connection to ancient Goa.

Etiopian Messianic rabbi Kokeb Gedamu visits the ruins In March 2010.Gedamu confims that the patters are of Etiopean Coptic Orthodox origin. They are similar To what He has seen in synagogues in his home country.

There is also a Jewish religious pool next to the synagogue structure, A Jewish Mikvah.

The Green arrow shows the pool. The black arrow the synagogue ruin with Koptic Ethiopean symbols.

The Inquisition archive was “lost”.

But Knutsen claim the National Governmental Archives in Portugal includes correspondence between Goa and Lisboa, that express that 16.000 trials were conducted by the tribunal in Old Goa.

Since the Goa Inquisition archive is missing, no scientist can confirm the exact number of people convicted, and burnt at stake.

The unknown crime against the Jewish community in Goa

September 26, 2011

Many historians have tried to solve the mystery of the Jews of Goa that disappeared. The vanished from a city of 200.000 people.

There was already a Jewish colony in Old Goa when the Portugues cocured the city.

An historical mystery: «The Jews of Goa disappeared».

The “Sephardic Jews” came to India from western European nations such as Holland and Spain. A notable settlement of Spanish and Portuguese Jews starting in the 15th century was Goa, but this settlement eventually disappeared. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Cochin had an influx of Jewish trader-settlers from the Middle East, North Africa, and Spain.

«A notable settlement»

«The first Jews in Cochin (southern India) were the so-called “Black Jews”, who spoke the Malayalam tongue. The “Sephardic Jews” settled later, coming to India from western European nations such as Holland and Spain. The Polish Jew that meet Vasco Da Gama (1498 A.D)

GASPARD DA GAMA was a German-Jewish mariner of the fifteenth century. According to his own story, Gaspard da Gama was born in Posen, and while still young had to leave the country (1456) on account of oppression. He followed his family to Jerusalem, and from there to Alexandria. He traveled thence to India by way of the Red Sea, was taken captive, and sold into slavery.(13)

When Vasco da Gama had left the coast of Malabar and was returning to Europe (1498) he stopped at the little island of Anchediva, sixty miles from Goa. During his stay there his feet was approached by a small boat containing among the native crew a tall European with a flowing white beard. This European was Gaspard da Gama, who bad persuaded his master Sabayo, the viceroy of Goa, to treat the strangers kindly, and who was now bent on inducing them to land. Gaspard was evidently highly esteemed by Sabayo, for the latter had made him admiral (“capitao mór”).

What happened to this large city?

Malaria and cholera epidemics ravaged the city in the 17th century and it was largely abandoned only having a remaining population of 1,500 in 1775. The viceroy then moved the palace of Adil Shah to Panaji. In 1835 after religious suppression the city was virtually deserted.

The Church who present a persecutor of Jews as a saint

September 25, 2011

The first demand for the establishment of the Inquisition in Goa was made of Francis Xavier from Pamplona in Spain.

The Jesuit priest Francic Xavier wrote to the King and requested a inqusition tribunal in Goa

In a letter addressed from Ambonia (Moluccas) to Dr. Joao III, King of Portugal, on May 16th 1545, he wrote:

The cruelty of criminals like Xavier is explained in this book.

“The second necessity for Christians is that your majesty establish the Holy Inquisition, because there are many who life according to the Jewish law, and according to the Mahomedan sect, without any fear of God or shame of the World”.

“And since there are many who are spread all over the fortresses, there is the need of the Holy inquisition, and of many preachers”.

“Your majesty should provide such necessary things for your loyal and faithful subjects in India”.

Goa Tribunal: Death penalty for being Jewish

This is the Inquisition law that legalized death penalty for all Jews living in Goa.

This is written in Regimento do Santo Officio da inquisition dos Reynos de Portugal.  (Manual of rules and regulations of the Holy Office of the Inquisition in the kingdoms of Portugal).

This manual was published in 1640 by bishop D. Francisco de Castro, Inquisitor General of the Kingdom and dominions of Portugal.  Based on an earlier manual complied in 1613 by bishop d.Pedro de Castilho.

That any person after receiving baptism has had belief in the Mosaic law, subsequent to the last general pardon
which was published on the 5th of 1605, not acknowledge Jesus Christ, our redeemer as true God and Messia’s, promised to the Patriarchs and prophesied by the prophets, performing Jewish rites and ceremonies, namely:

1. Not working on Saturday, but remaining dressed on that day as on a feast day.

2. Commencing and observance of Friday evening.

3. Always abstaining from the flesh of pigs, hare or rabbit and scaleless fish and other things prohibited in the old law.

4. Fasting on the great day that comes in the month of September, and on other days on which the Jews are accustomed to fast.

5. Solemnising their passover.

6. Saying Jewish prayers.

7. Bathing their dead, dressing them in a long shirt made of new cloth.

8. Singing as the Jews do and placing in their moth aljofar (seed pearls).

9. Eating on low tables.

10. Performing any other act which appears to be done in observance of the said Mosaic Law.

The criminal Jew-hater Francis Xavier is presented as the patron saint of Goa. The archbishop pray to the saint together with the priests, and the bishop offers incense to the more than 400 years old skeleton. Just take a look:

The corpse of Francis Xavier is carried on the shouldes of faitful Roman Catholics.

Historian: “Goa was a religious terror state”

September 20, 2011

«Jews, Christians and Hindus were burnt at stake in Goa in India».

Gunnar W. Knutsen has made a book about the Inquisition in Goa.

In 1542 A.D there were 200.000 people living in Old Goa. The Inquisition started in 1560 A.D. It lasted for 252 years. The rubble of the destroyed city can still be found under the three cover.

The tiny state of India was the centre of the most cruel inquisition on planet Earth. This is the words of the historian and author Gunnar W. Knutsen. He recently translated an eyewitness account from 1687».

Gunnar W. Knutsen took his master on the Spanish Inquisition, and is today employed as an Historian at The University of Oslo. He was written several books and articles on the different tribunals of the Inquisition. In the Norwegian version of the «The Inquisition of Goa» Knutsen also explains from his own conclusions, made by the research and studies of the tribunal in Goa.

«The Spanish Inquisition did create fear in Europe. But few, if none, are aware of the fact that the most grotesque religious tyranny took place in Asia. For 252 year, the Portuguese enclave of Goa was ruled by a tribunal, which by the present age was look up on as a state of terror».

India was fare away from Europe, and the Portuguese authorities and the Roman Catholic Church had freer hands than on their home turfs. The Religious tyranny lasted for almost 252 years. The archive files of the religious tribunal has disappeared, and no-one knows for sure the number of people executed.

«But we know from other sources, that there were more than 16.000 trials in Old Goa. Even without access to the missing achieves, we can acknowledge that al least 500 people lost their lives», Mr. Knutsen explains.

«The Tribunal in Goa got the authority to arrest and transport to Goa people from all the Portuguese colonies on the East Coast of Africa, West cost of India, Sri Lanka, The spice Island of Indonesia and Portuguese China. The Portuguese Inquisition was in fact a global system of justice with authority over all sea vessels under control of the King of Portugal, wherever on the planet they were located» says Knutsen.

The skull of Francis Xavier, who wrote to the King of Portugal and proposed a tribunal of the Inquisition to be set up in Goa.

It was the fight against «Maranos», or crypto-Jews who was the official ideology behind the tribunal of the Inquisition in Goa.

The crypto-Jews was the name of Jews who officially has converted to Catholicism, but still celebrated Jewish traditions and the Sabbath in secret.

When the Jews were expelled from Spain in 1492 and Portugal in 1948, many of them chose to flee to the newly discovered colonies.

In the year 1557, the Jesuit Goncalo Da Silva from the Indian city of Cochin wrote, that Judaism was a «perversisismo», the secret enemy which needed to be defeated with an Inquisitional tribunal in Goa. But also the Pre-Portuguese St. Thomas Christians and the Hindus of Goa was persecuted and killed by the tribunal.

My comment:

The Goans have never been told the full truth about the crime against humanity that took place inside their state during the Portuguese rule. The man they adore, venerate or worship as a saint, is basically the man that brought in the terror. Thats tragic.

Will the Roman Catholics in Goa ever be told the truth, so they can get a chance to repent?
